Roofing Tax Credit

architecture-1246301_1920By Dymon BradyDid you know it is possible to earn money back on your roof if it is installed with  a certified energy star product?  A tax incentive is offered to those  investing in cool roofing products.  Generally, you can earn back 10% of  your costs, labor not included.  The refund has a maximum amount of  $500.Not only will you receive 10% of your purchased cost back, but you also will be  saving money long term.  Energy efficient roofing products reduce the temperature of your roof, which in turn reduces the temperature of your home below, resulting in lower energy costs. Some homeowners may be concerned that a cool roof will raise heating costs in the winter.  This can be true, but these costs are greatly outweighed by the savings obtained throughout the summer months.  In the winter, the sun is lower in the sky, it is often overcast, and most roofs are covered with snow, preventing heat loss.   Talk to your contractor if you are concerned a reflective roof will raise heating costs in your home. If you want to know if you qualify for this tax credit, or if you are interested in qualifying for it next year, we can help you know if this credit is for you. The qualifications are:

  • Must be a residential roof.

  • The original use must begin with you.
  • Must reasonably be expected to last 5 years or more.
